Massive Growth in the User Base

The global cryptocurrency user base continues to expand rapidly. Currently, about 9.9% of the global internet population holds some form of digital assets, reflecting an impressive 34% year-over-year increase compared to 2023. This growth is heavily driven by the younger generation, with adults aged 25 to 34 being the most active demographic in the market.

Cryptocurrency as a Mainstream Payment Method

For a manufacturer of Bitcoin ATMs and payment infrastructure, the most exciting news is the surge in merchant adoption. An estimated 46% of surveyed merchants have now integrated cryptocurrency into their accepted payment methods. Data for 2025/2026 also reveals that half of large enterprises and over a third of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in key markets have begun accepting crypto payments. Furthermore, the e-commerce sector experienced a 75% increase in crypto payments. Customers are sending a clear message: they want to transact using crypto.

Who is Leading Global Adoption?

When looking at the percentage of internet users owning crypto, Turkey leads the world with a 25.6% ownership rate. Brazil sits closely behind at 20.6%, followed by South Africa with 19.6%. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stands at 16.9%, while Singapore reaches 13.9%. In terms of absolute numbers, massive markets still dominate the landscape, with India and the United States leading in total active crypto owners.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

The data clearly shows that cryptocurrencies are here to stay and are continuing to grow. At GENERAL BYTES, we are proud to be part of this revolution. We are building the infrastructure that creates a physical bridge between traditional fiat and the digital currencies, enabling anyone, anywhere, and anytime to safely buy and sell crypto.
